If you don’t create files in Play Studio using the PlayHT 1.0 model, you can safely skip this article.
TL;DR -
We’re officially retiring PlayHT 1.0 on June 15, 2025, as part of our transition to newer, more advanced voice technology.
To continue using TTS features, please migrate any voices or files created with PlayHT 1.0 to our latest models.
🧠 Why Is This Happening?
As we continue to raise the bar with newer, more advanced voice models, we're focusing our efforts on delivering the best possible quality and experience.
To support this evolution, we’re deprecating legacy models like PlayHT 1.0, which hasn’t been updated in over three years. This shift allows us to fully invest in the next generation of voice technology and ensure you benefit from the latest improvements moving forward.
🔍 What Does This Mean for me?
After June 15, 2025:
- PlayHT 1.0 voices will no longer be usable across the platform.
- PlayHT 1.0 files will lose TTS functionality, including the removal of the "Generate" button.
👥 Who Is Affected?
This change impacts two types of users:
- Users with high-fidelity voice clones created in Studio using the PlayHT 1.0 model.
- Users who actively use PlayHT 1.0 files for TTS generation.
If either of these applies to you, please follow the migration steps below to avoid disruption.

❓ FAQ
Will my files be deleted?
No — your files and previously generated audio will remain accessible.
However, you will no longer be able to generate new audio (TTS) using them.
I prefer my V1 voice — the PlayDialog voice doesn’t sound as good. What can I do?
We’re sorry to hear that. PlayDialog is designed to offer higher fidelity and better performance, but we recognize it might not be a perfect replacement in every case.
We’d love to understand what’s missing.
